Through the Women’s Network we’ve identified that women going through the menopause often need extra support and guidance whilst at work. Prioritising the health and wellbeing of our people is important here at Salisbury, which is why we’ve signed up to the Menopause Workforce Pledge and committed to:
Stacey Hunter (Chief Executive Officer) and Melanie Whitfield (Chief People Officer) signing the Workforce Menopause Pledge for Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust
‘Menopause’ is a term used to describe the natural decline of a woman’s reproductive hormones, beginning typically between the ages of 45 to 55, although some women can experience symptoms earlier (peri-menopause). Common symptoms of menopause include hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes and sleep disturbances. All of which can result in an increase in anxiety and depression.
We recognise that not everyone experiencing the menopause will identify or express themselves as a woman. People who are non-binary, trans, intersex or male, may also experience menopausal symptoms and may also benefit from the resources available.
A new Menopause Policy is also currently under consultation, intended to support colleagues who are experiencing symptoms associated with the perimenopause and the menopause, including those symptoms which continue post menopause. The policy may also be used to support colleagues impacted by a family member’s menopause. We aim to have this live by end of November and will keep you updated.
We hope that you find the below resources useful. If you do need any further support or guidance, please feel free to reach out to your Line Manager or any of our Menopause Champions.
